The region used to be one of the most important centers in the textile industry. However, during the past decades, it underwent a tremendous structural change. Painful cuts were made but at the same time there was a chance for the economy to start over completely. The dilligence of the people living in this region as well as their flexibility and courage in continuously furthering the development of this pleasant region are today’s basis of the economy, which is characterized by medium-sized companies.
In addition to traditional branches of industry such as engineering and plant construction, the chemical, textile, and food industries, as well as wood processing and electrical engineering/electronics, companies from the fields of medical technology, environmental technology and polymer processing can be found in the region.
