Geographical Location
The administrative district of Greiz has 117,000 inhabitants and comprises an overall area of 843 square kilometres. Thereby it covers the largest part of the Thuringian Vogtland region. Originally giving its name to the entire Vogtland, today the region is part of the Free State of Thuringia. Economically integrated into the central German market, companies have well established business relations with the neighboring regions in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Bavaria and the Czech Republic.
The administrative district of Greiz is located directly at the intersection of the axes Berlin-Munich and Wuerzburg-Dresden. This central location means short distances to important regions in Germany.
Despite its small area, the Thuringian Vogtland offers a colorful landscape, characterized by low mountain ranges and hills, river valleys and rock formations, vast floodplains, reservoirs and plateaus. In addition, the district of Greiz has natural reserves and centuries old cultivated landscapes. The Allrichberg with a height of 533,5 m is the highest elevation in the region.
